Principal's Road to Biotechnology Education - This half-day course is offered twice a year to secondary school principals in the Biotechnology Laboratory located at the Ho Yu College and Primary School (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen) in Tung Chung. The objectives of the PBE Course are to briefly introduce the basic science and the current advances in biotechnology, and to disseminate HKBERC's plan in biotech education and the advanced training capabilities of the Biotechnology Laboratory.
Basic Recombinant DNA and Protein Technology (BTN) Course - This is a 5-day course designed for senior biology (Form 4 - 7) teachers. The course is usually offered in June and July, and designed to provide practical laboratory experience in basic techniques for recombinant DNA technology and protein studies commonly used in the research and development of biotechnology applications. Guest lectures by invited speakers from the academic institutions and biotech industries will be presented. For details and registration, please click to download our Registration Form.
This is a student training course. Teachers trained in the BTN Courses will be given full support by HKBERC to prepare, develop and present a practical teaching lab for students on various topics of biotechnology based on their training in the BTN Courses. The teacher will prepare and provide a lesson plan to be approved by HKBERC, and the teaching faculty at HKBERC will assist and advise the teacher. HKBERC will provide to this teacher the use of the Biotech Lab at Ho Yu College, the reagents and consumables, and the teaching assistance required for the delivery of the lab course to the class of students. It is expected that these Student Biotech Labs, once developed and delivered (field-tested) to students, will become valuable modules of practical biotech labs and serve as professional and education resources to teachers.
